The Mountview February Newsletter is now available on line. Click here to access it.

Attention Grade 7 parents: a letter from Superintendent Tom Pandiscio, regarding Grade 8 Algebra criteria, went home with all 7th grade students on Friday, January 13th. Please click here to see a copy of the letter.

Attention 8th grade parents and students: here is some very important information regarding the 8th grade semi formal. It will be held on Friday, February 10th from 7:00-9:30pm. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at lunches, starting on February 6th. Dress code is very important. Girls should wear age-appropriate, modest dresses that cover everything from the armpit to the regular Mountview required hemline. Strapless or spaghetti strap dresses are ok. Girls may wear a dressy flipflop but should wear shoes they can walk in and no flip flops that they would normally wear to the beach. Boys should wear a button-down shirt tucked in to their pants, a tie, belt, dress pants, and shoes - no sneakers or jeans please. We are in need of appetizers, drinks, and chaperones for the night, so please email or call Assistant Principal Karen Hughes if you can help out. The theme of the evening is Fire & Ice, so we are in need of hot and cold items:  appetizers, fruit punch, water, and papergoods. If you can help out in any way, please let Karen know.

Important information and upcoming dates for 8th Grade parents and students: Click here to access the WRHS Ed Guide for 2012-2013. All Model United Nations new and old members should meet in the library this Friday morning at 7:30am.

Hey Mountview! Join the Student Council today, during activity period to take a picture of our student body in Moose shirts in memorial  of Josh Thibodeau. Hope to see you there!

The current session of Homework Zone for the 2011-2012 school year began on November 7th. Applications are now being accepted and slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. This is a great program offered by Mountview PTA - learn more about it here.  Download an application here and submit it, along with payment, to Mountview Assistant Principal, Karen Hughes. Applications can be dropped off in person or mailed to Karen Hughes, c/o Mountview Middle School, 270 Shrewsbury Street, Holden, MA 01520.

Any student interested in playing Holden Baseball this spring should pick up an informational flyer in the Mountview office.

Mountview's annual magazine drive fundraiser ended on Monday, October 3rd. Any further orders will need to be placed on line at www.qsp.com or you can click on the QSP link at the bottom of this page. The school code is 1090176.

Reminder to all parents: when picking up your student from any Mountview dance, you MUST pull in to the Mountview driveway and pick up your student in front of the school. Students will NOT be allowed to walk home and will NOT be allowed to walk to a neighboring street for parent pickup. We expected all dances to be heavily attended and realize that pick up will be a high traffic area. Help us out by being on time for pick up (9pm) and making carpool arrangements with other Mountview students. The fewer cars we have in the pick up line, the quicker the pick up line will go and the sooner everyone will get home!!

Fleece blankets for sale!! We have gray fleece blankets imprinted with the Mountview logo, available for the unbelievably discounted price of only $10 - how can you resist? What a great gift idea! Blankets are available for purchase in the office. Parents can stop by or send payment in with your student. Checks should be made payable to WRSD.

Is your child planning to participate in Mountview Athletics this year?  The following three forms must be signed and turned in to the office. Students will not be permitted to tryout or participate in athletics without having the proper paperwork completed.

Mountview also offers athletic insurance through Lefebvre Insurance.  Click here to print the form Dismissal procedure: please note, there are 3 ways for your child to be dismissed:

* at 2:45 with afternoon announcements. If you would like to pick up your student prior to bus dismissal, as part of the 2:45 announcements, you must notify the office. Either send in a note with your child or call the office prior to 2:30. You must park your car along the exit driveway (so that your vehicle is facing Shrewsbury Street) and come in to the building and wait in the lobby. Your child will be called with the end of the day announcements and you will exit the building with your student. If your child is to be a regular 2:45 dismissal for specific days (i.e. every Monday and Thursday for after school lessons), please send in one note for the year explaining which days they will be picked up at 2:45. Office staff and homeroom teachers will be notified, and your child will leave during the 2:45 announcements on those specific days.  * with the buses. Bus students are dismissed as soon as all buses have arrived.  * as a walker or carpooler. Walkers and carpoolers are called for dismissal once the buses have left. If your child is a walker or a regular carpooler, they will leave at this time. If you want to pick up your child in the car pool line, no note is needed. Simply pull into the entrance driveway (so that your vehicle is facing the Mountview building) and wait in the car. Your student will be dismissed when walkers and carpoolers are called. It is your student's responsibility to remember that they are being picked up in the carpool line.

There are a few extra copies of last year's yearbook still available for anyone who has not yet purchased one. The cost is $30 and checks should be made payable to WRSD and turned in at the office.

When sending in any notes to the office, please print your student's first and last name. Students and parents frequently have different last names and parent signatures are sometimes difficult to read. We want to avoid any confusion and be sure we know which student you are referring to!

FYI, homework requests are not done until a student has been absent for three days. Please request the homework when you call your child in sick on the morning of the third day. Many teachers post assignments on their websites, so it is a good idea to check there first whenever your child is absent.

Any issues with bus stop times, locations, or general concerns,  please contact the bus company, Atlantic Express, directly at (800) 483-1669.

Got books? The Kids in the Kommunity Group, Smiley Faced People, are sponsoring a book drive to help raise money for our school and for the Abbey House. By donating your used novels, picture books, information books, and textbooks (no encyclopedias or magazines, please), you will be helping these worthy causes. Just put your used books into the Go Books? bin conveniently located in the parking lot at the front of the school. Tell your parents, neighbors and relatives about it. You may also bring books to Room 206. Thank you for supporting Kids in the Kommunity, Abbey House and Mountview Middle School!

Please remember to save your Box Tops for Education and turn them in to the Mountview office. We earn cash for our school that goes directly into our Student Activity Fund. This fund helps to support some of our special activities at Mountview such as field trips and enrichment programs, so please remember to support it!
