Be Fit - Intramural Sports

Floor Hockey will be offered for boys and girls in 7th and 8th grade after school on Tuesdays from February 28th - April 10th, and for boys and girls in 5th and 6th grade after school on Fridays from March 2nd - April 6th. Please refer to attached flyers.

Drama Club
This after school program is for students interested in theatrical arts. The Drama Club will produce a musical production this winter. Membership is for performers (including singers, dancers and actors), as well as stage crew (lighting designers, sound coordinators, set builders/painters, program writters, prop organizers, etc...). Drama Club will provide students the opportunity to not only participate in all aspects of a musical production, but learn performance skills, audition techniques, and technical aspects of the theatre. A $25 fee will be applied toward the cost of this program.

MODEL UN CLUB
Grades 6-8 - Students will engage in a variety of leadership discussions and activities regarding the world around them. Students will meet to share their thoughts and findings on current events, history and on actively being contributing members in their community. Those involved will have the opportunity to participate in the middle school Model UN conference at the WRHS, recognize the imprtance of history to the modern world and help Chocksett with a new program to recognize and support our troops overseas. Requirements for this club include reading, writing and active participation.
Model UN will begin at the end of October and run through the year, meeting on Mondays. Sign-ups will begin third week of October. There is a one page essay requirement explaining the student's desire to participate, as well as a $25 fee to help cover program costs.

Walk/Jog Club
Grades 5-8 - Club members will walk or jog around the track behind the school from 3:10-4:15. If it rains, the group will meet in the gym and do an alternate activity. Students should be prepared with sneakers, comfortable clothing, a water bottle and a healthy snack. This activity is sponsored by the Be Fit Grant.

ASAP - Academic Student Assistance Program Please ask your 5th or 6th grade child regarding the notice sent home for this valuable program.
Overview Program Details ASAP: Assistance with study, organization and time management skills. Program will run from:October 4th - December 15th Program will be held on: Tuesdays and Thursdays Program will begin and end: 3:00 to 4:00 PM Program cost: $75.00 check made payable to WRSD Registration: First come -first serve basis. Registration Deadline: Wednesday, 9/28/2011. Program note: Maximum of 20 students, minimum of 15 students for program to run.
Destination ImagiNation Grades 6-8 Destination ImagiNation is an after school program that encourages team-building, problem solving and creativity. Teams of up to 7 students work to solve challenges that will then be presented at regional tournaments in March of 2012. Throughout the year students develop skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, innovative thinking, teamwork, time management and much more! There will be 20 students accepted into the program and they will be chosen based on their essays. A $25 fee will cover the cost of program materials and tournament registration. Mathletes Grades 7-8 We will have a Mathletes team again this year for seventh graders and interested eighth graders. It is a fun way to put your math skills into practice! There are friendly competitions between Chocksett and other middle schools within our school district. We will also attend a middle school math competition at Saint John's High School in Shrewsbury. You may participate in as many of the competitions that work for you! Seventh grade Mathletes practice during lunch once per week; eighth graders who are interested should see Mrs. Rondinone regarding how to practice on their own. Remember, any student who is currently in seventh or eighth grade may participate.
The competitions are directly after school and generally last until 5 pm. A permission slip must be signed for each competition. We also need parents who are willing to help transport the Mathletes from Chocksett to the competition site and then back to Chocksett by 5:15 pm.

Science Olympiad Grades 5-8 It’s that time again!! The Science Olympiad team will be starting up practices at the beginning of October. An informational meeting will be held at 2:15 pm on Wednesday, September 28th during AE. We welcome any interested students in grades 5-8 to come and check us out. Science Olympiad competitions offer many interesting events in all the major sciences, such as “Crime Busters,” “Bottle Rockets,” and “Reach For The Stars.” There is something for everyone!! Each student participant will pay a $25 fee to help defray the cost of materials and competition registration and will commit to participate through the March State Competition.
